History of CAM©

Dearborn Advisors invested over 8,000 hours in researching and developing an innovative approach to clinician adoption. CAM© is the outcome of that research. CAM© is a unique methodology and toolset developed to support and augment the effective adoption and deployment of CPOE and other advanced clinical systems. It is essentially a map for gaining clinician buy-in using a structured approach and step by step process.

Dearborn Advisors developed CAM© from the ground up – first conducting extensive research on physician adoption of CPOE. We reviewed what worked well (best practices), what did not (lessons learned) and the challenges to the industry. Next, we developed a methodology model based upon the information learned from the research. This model was built as an industry standard to be complimentary to and easily integrated with all major clinical information systems vendors and other consulting methodologies.

Using the model as the framework, we then detailed CAM© into components, modules, work steps, tools and deliverables. The methodology was further refined utilizing input from a diverse group of constituents including: physicians, nurses, other clinicians, chief information officers (CIOs), and AMDIS (Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems). Finally, a flexible work plan was created around the CAM© methodology using Microsoft Project®
